*Nauti or Nice? Camera strap sale and 10% of sales donated to Family Promise.

2020 has been one hell of a year. Few have scraped through unscathed. As we hit full holiday mode, we are constantly bombarded with sales, deals, and arguments to purchase many, many things. Some of us are struggling to provide what in past years have seemed “normal” for our families as we are affected by the continuing global pandemic.

This year has seen many ups and downs for our household between work, school, family and friends. Something we have found great solace in, is finding ways to enjoy spending time together (as we’ve had a lot of opportunity). While we have had some issues and loss over the last 9 months, we feel very fortunate to be able to continue to make a living through all of this.

We talked as a family about what we would want to do with any support we could muster. Because of Covid, volunteering (especially with two school aged children) is a difficult option. Financial donations were the next obvious choice. When discussing who we wanted to donate to, the boys (with a little helpful guidance) decided it made the most sense to help people who were struggling with the necessities, food and shelter. There are millions of people in the US, and many, many more around the world that have been hit very hard by this pandemic, and as a family, we decided to find a way to try and give a little to some of those families if possible.

We’ve found an organization called Family Promise that focuses on homelessness, primarily for families with children. With a 99.95% overall rating through Charity Navigator, we felt good about donating to an organization that is very transparent, and focuses so much of their received donations toward the actual goal of helping families in need, with food and shelter through community organization, outreach and support that will hopefully last long after we get through all of this crazy crap.

This holiday season, as we’ve done annually, we’re offering a 30% discount on all camera straps through NautiStraps.com with 10% of all sales donated to Family Promise. Use code “NAUTIORNICE20” at checkout to get 30% off any and everything we build. On top of that, the kids wanted to match donations out of their savings. In lieu of buying their loving, and arguably deserving parents any gifts, we told them they could donate as much as they wanted to Family Promise, and that the Mrs and I will cover any remainder.

If you, or someone you know might enjoy a quality hand built camera strap for the holidays, we’d be happy to build one for you. We’ve felt very lucky to be able to use this business to donate to various organizations in the past as it enables us to utilize our well controlled livelihood (we have two employees) to hopefully help out where we might not have had the opportunity to in the past.

If not needing a camera strap, and you have the means, it is a good year to try and find organizations that are aiming to help many of us that have been more directly affected by this horrible pandemic. We like Family Promise, but there are many, many others. On top of that, try to support small, family or employee owned, and local businesses wherever possible. We need as much help as we can get.

We are a large, global community and through our collective power of purchase, we can truly help keep many friends, families, neighbors and wonderful strangers afloat by choosing to buy through them when and wherever possible.

Happy holidays, and happy everything to everyone. We hope you and your families are well, healthy and have the happiest of seasons that we all can.

You can see Nauti Straps HERE. You can find Family Promise HERE.

With love and gratitude (and thankfulness that 2020 is almost over),

*Nauti Straps has a new look. Forest Flora ready to follow you out into the wild.

regatta19

Shameless self plug alert, but my kids gotta eat, and I’m also very proud of these.  ***Nauti Straps has a new colorway available in 3 different straps.  The new mottled Forest Flora blends light and dark greens along with a clay beige to put a pop in your camera fashion for the summer months.  Mimicking the dappled light through a forest canopy, Forest Flora blends into nature, or compliments more monochromatic backdrops.  Available in the Regatta and Wayfarer shoulder straps, along with the Cascade wrist strap, it’s a new look for the three popular strap designs.  As always, every Nauti Strap is 100% hand built to the highest standard (by moi) using high end sail racing line designed for open ocean races under the harshest conditions.

NS-Wayfarer19oncam

The Nauti Straps Wayfarer (see HERE)

A fully adjustable rope strap enabling a longer, looser throw for the cross body sling, or a tighter, closer length to keep it from bouncing off your belt when over your neck.  Available in 8 different colors, this design came from a desire to have a nice rope strap that didn’t have to be built in various lengths for different needs or body sizes.  One size fits all, and can be adjusted between 32″-55″ (81-140cm) long.  Held by nonslip O rings, and fastened by stainless steel quick release clasps, the Wayfarer is a great strap when needing versatility and comfort while looking slick.  Having a double strap at your neck also helps distribute weight better than a single rope strap.  Available in 8 different colors.

NS-Cascade19oncam

The Nauti Straps Cascade (see HERE)

Our most popular wrist strap has a new look as well.  The secure and adjustable Cascade wrist strap is fastened to the camera via a 170lb test, steel split ring and is fully adjustable to fit any sized wrist with ample room to operate the camera.  Strong nylon, dyneema and high tenacity poly dual braid line, finished with hand spliced and whipped ends makes this, quite possibly, the strongest rope wrist strap in existence.  It feels and looks good too.  Available in 7 different colors…

The Nauti Straps Regatta (see HERE)

Are you more of a traditionalist?  The Regatta shoulder strap uses the same high end rope, and keeps it simple in design.  A straight 46″ (117cm) non adjustable, hand built rope strap attaches to the camera via two stainless steel quick release clasps.  A stylish and elegant rope strap while out and about.  Available in 10 different colors, the Regatta suits most any shooter’s style.

I handbuild each and every strap I sell, and I’ve extensively used and refined each and every design to provide both a practical, and comfortable option in the strap game.  I guarantee these straps will last, and have now been building and selling them for over 7 years now.  You can read what others have to say via the reviews at Nautistraps.com if you don’t want to take my word for it.

I hope everyone in the Northern hemisphere is enjoying the summer months, and for our friends in the south, here’s to hoping the winter solstice has found you well, and know that your days are now getting longer.  Drop a comment to let us know where you shoot and reside, and if you’re a Nauti Strap user, let us know how it suits you.

Happy shooting and all the best,

Tyson

I don’t know about you all, but I’m already tired of blackfridaycybermondaysmallbiztuesdaysale™ season.  That said, it is the time of year that retailers attempt to capitalize on those of us looking for deals for the holiday season.  In that vein, Mrs Squeeze and I are jumping on that train and offering 30% off of all hand built camera straps that we make.  I mean, the kids have gotta eat, right?

If you, or any beloved photographer you know are needing a gift idea for the holidays, we’d be happy to build you a camera strap that is not only fashionable, but remarkably strong and beautifully functional.

Find what we do at NautiStraps.com HERE, and use code “NAUTIORNICE” at checkout to receive 30% off any and all straps, be they wrist, sling or shoulder.

Wherever you may be, and however you may celebrate, from our family to yours, we hope all is well and that this season will find you and yours happy and healthy.

Happy shooting,

Tyson and Rachael

*Brand New, adjustable Wayfarer Strap. Comfy, elegant and on sale!!!

I get a lot of enjoyment from figuring out more efficient and elegant ways to design camera straps.  One question I’ve fielded multiple times has been the desire to see an adjustable, nautical rope shoulder strap.  The Regatta strap has done well, and has been well received, but for me, it posed two problems.  First, the adjustability.  Tricky part with rope is that there are few ways to actually allow for adjustment to length without bulky hardware.  Secondly, while it does well for rigs up to 2-2.5 lbs, after that, a single rope can become a little uncomfortable while out and about if carrying your camera for long periods of time.  Enter the brand new Wayfarer shoulder strap which remedies both of those issues, and I’m really happy with how they’ve come out.  Available in 7 different colorways, at Nautistraps.com now, you can also get them for 15% off as an introductory sale offer this week, using the code “NAUTIWAY15” at checkout.

C’mon in to see colors and learn a little bit more about the design process…

*Monthly Nauti Straps Donation Program – April 2017 – White Helmets

I cannot think of a situation more dire than that which is taking place in Syria and affecting Syrian people right now.  I’d imagine we’ve all read about, and seen the horrific footage of the most recent spate of chemical attacks and while extremely hard to watch, if you haven’t, I think it important to do so to understand just what the evil in this world is capable of.  The Syrian Civil Defense, known as the White Helmets are a group of Syrian rescue workers who risk life and limb to respond to bombings, chemical attacks and any other act of violence against innocent children, women and men, and do so outside of any political or religious framework.  Pure humanitarian motivation.  I would suggest seeing who they are, and what they do here: www.whitehelmets.org

As of the time of this writing (according to their website), 166 White Helmet volunteers have been killed, and yet they continue to charge into affected areas to help the people, the families, the children who are otherwise helpless.

Politics aside, and regardless of who is responsible for the continued aggression against Syrian civilians, we can at the very least, financially help.  We will be donating 10% of all sales of Nauti Straps (find Nauti Straps HERE) to the White Helmets this month, and even if you’re not in the market for a camera strap, even a few dollars can help if you feel so inclined to donate directly.  I’ve tried to find worthy causes to support each and every month, and right now, I cannot think of any cause in more immediate need.  We may not be able to do much in the grand scheme of things, but this is one way that we’ve decided to try and use our new business to help a little bit.

We will be getting back to our regularly scheduled programing shortly as I have multiple lens reviews and comparison articles in the works.

Thanks all, be well and happy shooting.

*New Nauti Straps Speed 2 Sling Straps, adjustable and ready to go!

speed2 on Sony a7II

The Speed sling strap has been a mainstay for me, but over the last year, I’ve gotten feedback that an adjustable version would be something of interest to many.  Well, I sourced a lightweight, but sturdy cam lock buckle to fit the strap material, re-designed how I was splicing the clasp on, and locking the strap, and boom.  New Speed 2.

Weighing in at a mere 2.2 ounces, and utilizing the same high strength materials, stainless steel quick release clasp and proprietary hand built design, the new Speed 2 sling strap is perfect for mirrorless and compact cameras, for on the go photographers.

speed2-9

Available in Blue/White, Yellow/Gray, Orange/Gray, Red/White, Black/White and a new Solid Black with 3M® reflective tracer, the new Speed 2 is ready to go over at NautiStraps.com now.  The straps can adjust from 16″-29″ (the original Speed sling strap was a fixed 25″) and are designed to wear across your body as a sling, attaching to the camera via a quick release spring clasp and 170lb test split ring (included).  I like being able to switch between a Speed sling, and other straps using the quick release clasp.  Especially handy when wanting to get straps out of the way on the tripod.

speedsling2

Available now for $48 including delivery (in the US), and for blog readers you can get a 15% discount for the next week (discount runs through Sunday, February 12th) using code “SPEED2” at checkout, these guys are ready to rock.  As always, shipping via the US Postal Service is free within the US, and is a flat $10 rate for anywhere outside of the US.

Thanks for all of the support over the last year as I’ve been working on all of these straps.  It means a lot, and I greatly appreciate the feedback and conversations I’ve had with many of you guys over this time.

I hope everyone is well.  Connect with me via  Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Instagram.

*Nauti Straps is a go! A new home for my hand built, camera straps w/Discount Code!

NSblackForTRP

Hello friends! I’ve been working tirelessly (well, okay, that’s a lie, I’ve been fairly delirious actually) over the last couple months to put together a new home for the camera straps that I’ve been building for the last few years.  With a new, grown up name and site, I give you, NautiStraps.com

Along with the tried and true Cascade and Vector wrist straps, I have introduced two new, shoulder straps as well.  The Speed Sling is a pared down version of the Speed Holster Strap that we launched through Mettle Cycling (available directly soon), and the new Regatta Strap which utilizes a very high performance, dual braid yachting line for a comfortable, and very strong option.

Cascade_1024x1024 Vector_1024x1024 SpeedSling_1024x1024 Regatta_1024x1024

Many of you found my blog through the wrist straps that I’ve been building and selling.  Thank you for the support over the years.  If you’ve enjoyed them, I’d greatly appreciate any buzz you can help me create for these.  My wife and I are the dual proprietors of this new venture, and instead of kickstarting or asking for money up front, we’d rather try to build on the reputation I’ve worked so hard to create over time and have already invested in the material to actually make these.  No need to pledge, you or a photog friend can get one whenever you want.  So a tweetmyfacestagram, repost or even a comment here would be awesome.  As always, I’d love to hear about your experience with them, and you can get to me through the Nauti Straps site, or contact me HERE.

Pricing stays the same as it has always been, the only differences are that product and shipping are separate on the new site, and I can now take credit cards directly through the site along with PayPal.  As a thank you to all my friendly blog readers, I’ve set up a discount specifically for anyone that would like to try out a new Nauti Strap.  Use code “TRPBLOG” at checkout for 15% off any and all straps this week.

Go to NautiStraps.com HERE

Finally, if you have an Instagram account, I’d love to connect there as well.  You can find us @nautistraps and follow for promos, giveaways and photo fun.  We’re a follow back kind of couple too 🙂

Stay tuned here on the blog which I’ll keep updated with new releases and designs as we launch them.  You can still find us through the Camera Straps Page HERE as well.

*TRP Vector Straps, now available through Mettle Cycling!

Mettle Cycling

I’m teaming up with my good friend, and fellow photographer, Randall (owner of Mettle Cycling) to offer the TRP Vector camera wrist straps.  We chose the Vector in particular, as a great option for those who like to tote their cameras along for the ride because they’re light, easy to get on and off one handed, and while on, they’re comfortable and secure.  I’ve been using the Vector straps, almost exclusively on my various cameras lately because they are comfy, and very low profile.

Vector Straps

Available now in all 4 colors, go and visit Mettle Cycling HERE to see the camera straps (available with free shipping for the straps by using FREESHIPPING at checkout), along with tons of beautifully handmade, cycling goods.  If you’re into journeying on two wheels, or just like to see great velo-photography, have a look at the Mettle Blog HERE.  Great insight into various goings on here in the Pacific Northwest, along with different projects like Leave It On The Road, where a great group of folks raise money to fight cancer doing what they love, to help support those they love.

Happy Holidays to all, and I hope this entry finds you and all of yours, well.  Keep on keeping on, and for the other TRP straps, you can always find them HERE.

Stay tuned, and up to speed with stuff here by adding your email to the top right of the page, or find me on the socials;  Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Instagram.

Thanks for the read, and happy shooting,

Tyson
