Hi Carmen,
Thank you. Regarding the EP5 vs GX7, I can only really talk to the GX7’s physical strengths and weaknesses as I’ve not used an EP5. I did shoot with the EM5 for a year and a half though, and it shares a lot of its DNA with the EP5. There are the obvious differences in that the GX7 has a good built in EVF, or the EP5 has the 5 axis IBIS, but I think it comes down to how either feel to and interact with you.
The sensors are both quality, and in my opinion are practically equal. I like the RAW files from the Pana sensor over the Sony sensor, but the Jpeg presets on the Oly are probably better.
Personally, I have not enjoyed shooting with Oly cams, but that is because I just don’t like the Oly approach to ergonomics, physical controls and menus. This is an entirely personal gripe and opinion, and there are plenty out there who feel the opposite, so like I said, I think getting them both in your hands would probably be the best way to determine which is better for you. If the price was the same, I think I’d look at which features suit you better, but I’m pretty sure the GX7 is running at a pretty substantial discount now with the GX8 slated for announcement in the Fall. There are rumors that the EPx line may not be continued, or upgraded anytime soon as Oly has found its momentum with the OMD lineup. In that case, I feel you’d get a better value overall for the GX7, personally if my understanding on prices is correct.
Hope this helps,
T
