*Moving onward and upward! A new recurring retouching project for the blog w/ @alienskin software.

IMG_7323As many of you have figured out, we stopped our monthly flicker photo blog challenge, much to my dismay.  Flickr’s desire to dumb itself down, into little more than a mobile app proved to be the death rattle for our monthly project which was going really well, bringing in hundreds of submissions for our monthly contests.  C’est la vie.

Well, with these lemons, I’d like to make lemonade because lemonade is awesome, especially if you only use half the recommended sugar and watch your unsuspecting friends, and young children drink it.

I’ve been in conversation with my friends at Alien Skin Software, and have had the great fortune to be both a contributor to their blog, and a beta tester for many of their programs over the years, the newest of which is the yet to be released, Exposure update.  As a long time fan of Exposure, I’m excited to see the final version.  With this new project, I’d like to gauge interest in having a retouching tutorial, where by I process and retouch submitted images using Exposure, which may then be shared with many, many thousands of viewers here and through the Alien Skin blog.  Come on in for more details, and my hope for this collaboration…

*Monthly Flickr Photo Blog Challenge #10; “Gadgets” with @Mirrorlessons

Sweet Memories by AnggaPJ

“Sweet Memories” by AnggaPJ (see more from Angga on Flickr HERE)

Thank you to our November winner Angga for the new theme: “Gadgets”

As is fun with our monthly themes, they are open for interpretation.  There are no rules, other than to be considered for our selections, you must submit your image to one of (good) or both (better) our themed flickr group threads below.  Over the last 10 months, Heather and Mat from Mirrorlessons, and myself here have collaborated to create a fun way to both motivate our selves as well as help provide a platform for a bit more exposure by way of showcasing our favorites on both of our websites.  At the end of the month, Heather, Mat and I each choose our favorite image from the flickr threads that we feel best represents the theme and post them on both of our sites along with a vote.

The vote is open for 5 days after which we tally the two sites polls and declare the winner.  The winner of the month gets to choose the next theme and the process begins again.  Each month’s winner is also entered into our semi-annual champions vote where we get to vote on the 6 monthly winners to determine our favorite.  That winner is showcased on both my site as well as Mirrorlessons while also winning software, handmade wrist straps and who knows what else.

So, submit your image to our Flickr group theme threads below and let the challenge begin!

Another month in the books.

Our monthly Flickr Photo Blog Theme challenges have been wonderful and I hope you guys have enjoyed them as much as we have.  For those not yet in the know, Heather and Mat from Mirrorlessons along with myself here on my site, host monthly challenges where the winner from each month gets to choose our theme for the following month.  Heather, Mat and I choose our three favorites each month and open it up for votes both here and on Mirrorlessons HERE.  We have enjoyed building and promoting the community that has continued to grow through our flickr groups, and on our sites, hoping to give a little back in the way of exposure and free stuff. Make sure to visit both polls to vote for your favorite.  Also keep an eye out for monthly themes to participate in.

Each monthly winner is then entered into our semi-annual giveaway poll where we take the 6 monthly winners and vote on our overall favorite with the winner taking home some cool stuff.  Our first semi-annual winner, billyburg, made off with a Topaz plugin of his choice, and I custom built a one off Garda Wrist Strap for him as well.

October’s theme might have been the most popular theme yet with tons of submissions, Heather, Mat and I have boiled it down to our three faves as seen above.  Vote below for your favorite and stay tuned for this month’s theme which will be announced within the week.

Visit our Flickr groups: TRP Photoblography HERE and Mirrorlessons HERE and don’t forget to vote over on Mirrorlessons too!

Find me on Facebook or Twitter as well to stay on top of new articles and announcements as they’re posted.

Happy shooting everyone,

April’s winner, Othman Kammah (Click here to Visit and see his photography) has chosen the theme “closer” for this month’s challenge.  All you need to do is to submit your image to the TRP Flickr group thread HERE and the Mirrorlessons Flickr group thread HERE.  The submission threads will close on May 31st at which time Heather, Mat and I will choose our three favorites and put them up for a vote which will run for 5 days.  Once a winner from that vote is determined, they will get to choose the theme for June and we begin again!  The winner this month will join Othman and Marco in a semi annual vote which will see one of the six monthly winners voted on to win our first champions giveaway!

So get close, and get shooting.  Enjoy and I look forward to seeing everyone’s submissions!!!

Happy shooting,

Tyson
