It rounds out the product lineup from Lensbaby for the various mirrorless mounts. I have a Composer Pro for m4/3 and a few of their optics, and they are really cool, for specific applications anyway. Not an every shot type of look, but their macro extensions or using the macro/close focus on the Edge80 while being able to use larger apertures and adjust the plane of focus to keep certain, small subjects ‘in focus’ by moving the plane from purely parallel to the sensor plane, to an angle away from, can be really handy when needing to increase the area in focus while handholding or the like. The newer Velvet harkens back to the soft focus portrait lenses of yesteryear, which I think can provide a unique effect in today’s landscape where we seem to be so focused on pure resolution which can be detrimental to certain styles of portraiture. For me, spending hours in post having to soften features and adjust blemishes or inconsistencies in skin can make for an arduous task. I’m curious to see if I can get the Velvet to help eliminate some of that for me, personally…
